Election ! What a waste of time

Sadly, after an election which saw Labour lose 94 seats, which can be construed as nothing more than a huge vote of no confidence by the British Public, we are left with a “Hung Parliament” and the possibility of a Lib Dem/Con coalition. Whilst the major parties “arse kiss” their way through the next few days in an attempt to form a relationship, our currency/credit rating and share values will all dive down the shitter. Knocking even more of pension fund and personal investment values. Why cant the politicos get their shit together and form a “Government of national Unity” to sort out the country. Put their differences aside for 5 years, save the country and then get back to what they seem to do best………..Fucking it all up again.

My Reply:

I have seen some crass, insensitive mean and vindictive rubbish printed over the years, but your article about those who mourn at Wootton Bassett, probably rated five stars in the “insensitive article of the year awards”. What right do you as an individual, let … See morealone as a representative of the gutter press, have to comment on the rights of people to mourn those lost in war? On Mothers Day, I was honoured to ride through Wootton Bassett as a mark of respect, not only for the fallen, but for those who pay their respects every time a repatriation occurs from RAF Lyneham. Nearly 15000 motorcyclists took part in this event and raised over £100,000 for the charity “Afghan Heroes” which supports those killed and injured in action. The people of Wootton Bassett and the surrounding villages were superb and their support made the day one of the most memorable I have ever attended. I for your information am a 49 year old, with a daughter in the Royal Navy, a son in law in the Royal Navy, a nephew in the Royal Military Police and many many friends in the Royal Marines, in which my father, god rest him was also proud to serve. Perhaps I and many like me who shed a tear, or show emotion at the death of those who protect us, are dinosaurs, but I have stood on the beaches of Normandy, the fields of Flanders, the trenches of the Somme and at the Menin Gate in Ypres and shed a tear in memory of all those who have fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice over the years for the freedoms which allow you to print drivel. Our armed forces are some of the best in the world and it is only fitting that those who feel proud of their sacrifice, pay tribute to them in whatever way they feel able, whether saying a quiet prayer in church, or standing in silence on the streets of Wootton Bassett. Perhaps as you hail from an urban sprawl with a massive ethnic population, you feel bound by political correctness to critiscise those who fight for this country and die. Sadly that is your right, but I am British and those men and women of whatever creed or colour who have died, have died whilst serving in the British Armed Forces for my Queen and My Country. If you have no pride in your country or its sons and daughters, perhaps you will have the decency to let those of us that do express our sorrow as we see fit!

Just watched this, the do gooder brigade are trying as usual to hang the military out to dry! Remember this vid has obviously been edited by the do gooders. I couldn’t fault the pilots, they did not fire without clearance from control and the two guys looked like they had AK47′s (not the two who turned out to be Reuters guys) I am sick and tired of people sat “back at home” judging the actions of soldiers who have to make “snap decisions” in combat. We have just seen two of our Brave Royal Marines court martialed for allegedly “splitting the lip” on an Afghan insurgent, caught red handed burying IEDs (his comrade got shot!!) As usual we have parasite “human rights lawyers” hanging around like Vultures scrutinising every move our military makes, as the US troops also do. Perhaps it is time the troops just said “No more” and left the politicians and the media to fight the battles, instead of criticising their actions……

Sunny Weekend

Well it’s been a sunny weekend here in Devon and good weather for a bit of Motorcycling on the Tenere. Didn’t go far yesterday, but the obligatory “Full English Breakfast” was consumed at the little cafe at Teignmouth railway station. Before I headed off and explored the back lanes around Ashton and Mamhead. Today was not as nice as Saturday, but I took the ex out for a drive in my Brothers Fiat Panda, which she has decided to buy off him. A quick trip to Dunkerswell aerodrome, for a carvery and a pint, then back home to put the feet up. All in all a peaceful weekend. Which makes a refreshing change…..Hey ho lets see what the week brings.

Ahhhh Easter is with us once again, that special time of year, where Christians celebrate the death and re birth of Christ, whilst the rest of the heathens stuff themselves with tons of chocolate, drink to excess, watch football and clog our roads with their polluting 4 x 4′s whilst they travel down to their bijou second homes in the South West. It’s that time of year, where as a committed motorcyclist, I “gird my loins” for another summer season of terrible riding conditions, mainly caused by the rudeness, arrogance and poor driving skills of the people headed to Devon for their holidays.

You would think, from the general standard of driving, that many of these people were given their licences “free gratis” for driving ambulances in the first war!! The simple acts of courtesy to their fellow road user, or god forbid, an indication of where they are going is totally alien to them…Luckily for me, they have a new warning system, to alert other road users to their crap driving. That being “sat nav sally”…glowing like a little rectangular warning sign, sat nav sally stands out on their dashboards as they attempt to navigate the byeways and highways of our fair county. So be warned, if you see the little glowing rectangle, back off to double the stopping distance and take any signal with a “pinch of salt” until the manoeuvre is complete, then you may stay alive. Also assume, that in any town such as Budleigh, where two cars can actually pass outside Staddons, your average grockle will slam the anchors on and stop “mid road” even though there is room for a T34 tank to pass by. Put these hints into practice and you may live til the Autumn!!

Well as an extra addition to this blog, I went out today for a bimble to “West Bay” in Dorset. Home of “cheesy chips” and biker heaven. A superb ride (normally) along the coast via Lyme Regis/Charmouth/Morcombelake and then into Bridport. Sadly the aforementioned drivers were out in force today and it was just madness. I did not realise how the level of driving skill could drop in 12 months…..but drop it has, ney plummetted! Combine the lack of skill with a ten fold rise in the ignorance factor and the roads are a great place to be NOT! Perhaps it would pay to go back to Boudicea’s time and fit bloody great swords to the axles of our steeds, at least we would be able to carve the car drivers up, instead of being carved up ourselves!

The Longboat Saga Continues

Like a bad smell, that blows fresh on the breeze, the “Longboat Saga” carries on. This weeks Journal was filled with the “Nimbyistic” rants from the “Anti Brigade” who are mobilising their forces like some unstoppable juggernaut to stop the Longboat Cafe development. They have commissioned reports on the visual impact, they have tried to get the building listed by English Heritage and they are attempting to use every weapon in the Nimby’s armoury to put the mockers on the project. Yet they still insist on circumventing democracy. These people who shout scream and stamp their feet, like spoilt brats who cant get their way, forget that it is they who voted in the councillors whose views they oppose, it is these self same councillors who have allowed other projects planning permission or denied, as the case may be. We have the usual Budleigh small town mentality in evidence, whereby, he with the most money and the biggest mouth, expects to be listened to. It interested me no end, to read of the planning permission for the houses and flats in Clarence Road, an issue which does require attention, does require public protest and does have “safety concerns” over access. Yet where will the Nimbies be over this issue.? I will tell you, they will not be seen, because Clarence Road is “someone else’s back yard”, “someone elses problem” and “normal people” live in Clarence Rd, whereas the “Gin and Tonic swilling Tarquin’s and Felicity’s” with their bijou second homes are only interested in allegedly “not having their view spoilt” from their luxury residences. The rest of us can just “lump it” How many of the anti Longboat complainants live in “original Budleigh Properties” I wonder, in comparison to those who reside in new “luxury apartments” or modern houses, which in their time affected other peoples views or changed the face of Budleighs landscape forever. These people are just hypocrites, who will whine relentlessly about anything that doesn’t suit them, whilst the rest of us who have to work for a living, just have to get on with it. Good luck to the Longboat I hope your application is successful, with a bit of luck democratic process will not be subverted by unelected pressure groups!

As a Member of Parliament, I have always been an advocate for road safety. My comments in the House of Commons arose from thorough research and quite devastating facts.

In 2008, the number of road accident deaths among motor cyclists in Great Britain was 493, representing 19% of all road deaths. Although this number has been decreasing over the past ten years, it still remains a great problem in road safety as it accounts for twenty percent of all deaths taken place on Great Britain’s roads. I agree that there are many other problems contributing to the number of deaths on the roads and I acknowledge the fact that many of these deaths may be caused by drivers of four-wheeled vehicles. Regardless, I am still a supporter of addressing every problem in road safety, including motorcyclist accidents.

I am the chair of trustees of the Parliamentary Advisory Council for Transport Safety. The objective of PACTS, as a registered charity is “To protect human life through the promotion of transport safety for the public benefit”. In our efforts, we tirelessly work to advocate research-based improvements to transport safety

I will not apologise for my work to promote road safety in the Great Britain, but I thank you for your comments on this matter.

Labour MP calls bikers “Orphan and Widow makers”

Labour Mp for Huddersfield “Barry Sheerman” decided in his infinite wisdom that he is “qualified” to make fatuous statements about motorcyclists, so I felt the need to reply….

Dear Sir,

I was today made aware of your comments regarding motorcyclists. Describing them as widow makers and orphan makers. Could you please inform me where in your socialist dogma training pamphlet did you acquire the qualifications to make such rude, absurd and fatuous statements? Also could you tell me why it is, that you would not dare make such a comment towards a racial minority or ethnic group, yet you feel that your position allows you to insult people because of their mode of transport. Perhaps if you and your lacklustre party concentrated on running the country correctly and left knee jerk politics alone, a lot more members of the public would not be in the position where the only form of “get to work transport” they can afford is a motorcycle or scooter. Perhaps if your esteemed leader had not squandered the countries gold reserves, by selling them at a knock down price, you and your colleagues would not have led us into financial ruin. Perhaps if you and your colleagues had not “raped” the expenses system to feather your nests and gold plate your troughs, the public at large would hold you in some respect. Perhaps if your previous war criminal leader Blair and his replacement Stooge Brown had not taken us into an illegal war, followed by an occupation of a non sovereign country with no defined purpose except to let the blood of our troops spill on Afghan soil, you would hold some moral high ground from which to preach to motorcyclists about their choice of transport.
Well guess what, unlike Pontias Pilate, you and your war criminal colleagues are not going to wash their hands of the blood of our troops, you and your fellow Labour MP’s have the death of every British Soldier fairly and squarely in your hands. So please cease to be a hypocrite and consider the widows and orphans that you are personally responsible for! At least if I die riding a motorcycle, I do it because I enjoy motorcycling and to ride one is my free choice and I accept the risks involved and unlike our troops, no one orders me what to do.
